We need Volunteers: Join the Team & Help in our Cafe & Shop in the Week
We have some spaces for volunteers in our weekday operation. This is a great opportunity to get experience in retail, cooking or hospitality. And you will be part of a very friendly team opening the doors on a much needed community hub for local people.
We are looking for enthusiastic and friendly people to join our two key teams - Kitchen Assistants and Shop & Cafe Assistants - but we are flexible and you’d be welcome to spend time in one or both. We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience (including none!!).
There could be opportunities to develop particular responsibilities if you are interested (for example, shop display work, stock ordering and management, cooking skills, menu planning etc). Full training and support will be provided.
Kitchen Assistant As part of our café team you will…
Help to prepare simple lunches, including: salads, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, etc. (full training provided)
Have the option to be part of a team to prepare the menu for the week, to include: chopping vegetables, making soup, baking cakes (full training and support provided)
Work with the team to keep the kitchen clean and tidy using our daily and weekly cleaning checklists

Play a big part in making our customers feel very welcome
Serve on the counter, taking café orders and selling shop goods
Make and serve hot and cold drinks and serve cakes and scones
Clear tables and keep the counter and customer space clean
Help to maintain the shop, this could include organising displays, re-stocking shelves, pricing goods
How long can I volunteer for? Weekday shifts run from 11am-2.30pm. There are other shifts for specific jobs and we can sometimes fit in shorter shifts too. You may like to commit to a regular shift, or you may want to sign up for different shifts as and when you're available.
full training and support (including from a Duty Manager in your day to day work and a Volunteer Supporter to help you get the most of your involvement with Talking Shop)
a personal learning record (if you want to develop particular skills or confidence)
opportunities for training (for example, accredited food hygiene and safety, mental health awareness or first aid, physical first aid)
a friendly, supportive, inclusive and safe environment!
