From the beginning Talking Shop has worked to bring people together over great affordable food - whether as volunteers or as customers - & we are signatories to the Oxford Good Food Charter
We believe everyone should have access to affordable healthy tasty food regardless of income. We believe too, in helping people gain and pass on the knowledge & skills to grow, cook, eat & enjoy food.
We want to build a team who will get together each week to cook up delicious affordable food for sale in our cafe & shop. We cook from scratch and with local ingredients where we can. This team will be preparing food for sale later rather than cooking to order so there will be time to settle in & learn at your own pace. This is a great opportunity to share & learn new styles of cooking, new skills, new recipes, to build confidence in the kitchen to take home or on into paid work. You will also be key to keeping our customers happy, healthy and well fed!
full training and support (including from a Duty Manager in your day to day work and a Volunteer 'Buddy' to help you get the most of your involvement with Talking Shop)
a personal learning record (if you want to develop particular skills or confidence)
opportunities for training (for example, accredited food hygiene and safety, mental health awareness or first aid, physical first aid)
a friendly, supportive, inclusive and safe environment!
All levels of experience welcome: we will work together to learn from each other. The timing of the cooking sessions have yet to be decided. Get in touch to find out more.
Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene training coming up soon.
